Hi all. Got a question about using RD in an educational environment. This is
NOT related to the discussion where multiple users are creating multiple log
changes, but might be worth looking at if you are part of that group.

Say you have an offline "practice" Rivendell machine where trainees can try out
logs by performing complete shows without jeopardizing the actual on-air
product. Say also they are practicing on a single hour in a log that is
supposed to hit hard breaks, as if they were at a network affiliate operation
or airing a segmented show with distinct time cues. Said log reflects a show
that does not have to air until 1:00AM, but said trainee cannot stay up 'til
then to watch it in action.

In my own personal case, there are times I want to rehearse a new syndicated
show that runs during unattended hours to make sure all the cues are hit
properly, and that segments start and end exactly where they are supposed to.

A solution I'm messing with is to temporarily turn off the NTP service (so RD
cannot hear a standard time reference on the network) and -- as SU -- reset the
computer's clock to a few minutes before the desired time, making Airplay
believe it really is 1 in the morning. After the exercise is over, the process
is reversed, time is restored and the Universe is safe once again <g>. I might
get the flashing red clock for awhile, but I know for sure the show works.

This is the most direct method I could come up with, but perhaps not the
simplest or most efficient. If anyone can suggest something
better/different/amazing, I'm listening.
