 This is where a translucent file system could be of some help.
 Lacking that, if the files that need to be writeable can be conclusively
 identified, they can by symbolic linked to writeable media as well,
 or the whole /etc can be a mount point for writeable media, though
 this will cause further work to be done for things like fstab so that
 /etc can be mounted during boot, the init scripts run, etc.

I don't believe there really IS a GAS SHORTAGE.. I think it's all just
a BIG HOAX on the part of the plastic sign salesmen -- to sell more
numbers!!
