I don't really understand how the letters and Numbers make up American and Other Countries call signs... but New Zealand ones are made up by
ZL = New Zealand 4 = The region of New Zealand (numbers 1 - 4) (I'm in the southern region) Although you'll sometimes get special service call signs for contests etc with a 5 or a 6 here. TUX are the personal parts of the call sign. But there could be a ZL1TUX or ZL2TUX etc Before we could use HF in NZ we had to pass the morse test etc as part of the licence... but now that is not needed.
