Hi,

Are you using an rsync with ssh or just a standard mounted NFS share from the
server to a local dir and rsyncing on that? I use rsync every day without
these problems although I must admit I do it out of live hours (Internet only
but no radio feed) "just in case", I've never noticed any problems though.

Its possible that the NFS buffers/threads are too small and causing problems.
I normally set NFS mounts in fstab to rsize and wsize buffers to 32768 (I think
the default is 8192). I read a while back that the max on one of the NFS
versions is 32768 however it will auto negotiate to the maximum supported
buffer size on both ends so there is no danger of completely killing it.

There was also an option to increase the NFS threads. This page has some
useful info:

Subject: [RDD] problems with rsync backup

Creating a copy of /var/snd on a backup machine using rsync while the
original machine is running rd [v2.x] the playout stops and the
rdairplay screen blanks. This happens every now and then.

At the same time rsync reports problems copying one of the files
in /var/snd and says it's going to try again.

the files are not being played at the time

the files are random, but cancel and repeat produces the same result on
the same files.

the files all check out ok in rdlibrary

I have the same problem using cp to a folder on the originating machine.

It sems to be OK on smaller files but these are regular 3-5 min songs

The originating machine is running a centos 64 bit appliance install
and has a 1Tb and a 500Gb which the installer set up as a LVM

all files are owned by rd:user and chmod 774

we seem to have plenty of ram and drive space.

no memory hogging processes

I am beginning to think it's one of the hard drives but there may be
something basic I have missed.
