I think there is command line options with Audacity to speed this process up.
But an even easier option to spit out wav files from just about anything is to use Audacious. Audacious is an audio player similar to xmms or winamp... load all your files onto Audacious... Hit Ctrl P to bring up preferences .... choose the file writer output plugin .... and force the wav file to 44100 16 bit... and it will spit them out at a rate of approx 10 times playing time as a wav file. You don't even need an available soundcard to output files like this from audacious.
