I find it depends on the machine and the device. Most machines, and most USB devices, are intended for temporary use, and tend to lock up after a while. Most machines ( Apple and Micro$oft ) are intended for the home user, so the machine is rebooted daily, resetting the buss and removing any memory leak problems. Think about it. If USB was all that great, we wouldn't have serial ATA for hard drives.
