Just to throw a completely different spanner in the works here. I've had this happen for I think completely different reasons.
My setup is an Ubuntu server with /var/snd shared via NFS. The clients are all Debian 6 running gnome 2. On one of the machines something screwy happens to the NFS share which results in either large gaps between songs, a complete stop for sometimes 30minutes+ only then to resume as if nothing happened. I looked into it and there is apparently an incompatibility with gnome network manager and NFS shares in general under some circumstances. I upped the NFS concurrent connections (buffers?) and turned off network manager which seemed to sort it although I must admit I haven't tested it for long as the screwy machine was just an old P4 I was using as an alternative to walking up stairs to the studios. Something to consider if you run a server share and the other suggestions aren't working. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] on behalf of Fred Gleason Sent: Mon 19/11/2012 21:19 To: User discussion about the Rivendell Radio Automation System Subject: Re: [RDD] RDAirplay Problem - Text Disappears and ButtonsUnresponsive On Nov 19, 2012, at 16:07 18, ICR Programs wrote: > AUDIO ADAPTERS > Card 0: AudioScience 5042 [1] > Driver: AudioScience HPI > Inputs: 8 > Outputs: 4 Hmm. I'd be looking at flaky hardware (or possible driver issues, though I personally haven't seen that). The JACK and ALSA setups can use significant amounts of resources (especially RAM), which I have seen cause symptoms like this on marginal systems. Shouldn't be a problem with an ASI setup though, where one of the big advantages is that it offloads all of that from the main CPU.
