Hi there.
Here are some tips for users that are put off by the new Ubuntu Unity interface.

VNC - Having trouble vnc'ing to your Ubuntu machine with the Unity
interface? Simply Log out and then log back in again and choose the
"Ubuntu 2d" desktop.
Vnc sessions will now respond better and be quite usable. If you
can't find how to set up Vnc. Click on the Dash Home icon and start
typing "vino-preferences" in the search field. Then click on the
"Desktop Sharing" icon.

VNC ssh tunneling - If you need to connect from a remote computer
through your stations firewall computer connect using "gstm" - SSH
tunnel manager for Gnome.

Dash System Launcher taming - First up right click on the icons that
you don't want (probably Terminal, 3 x Libre Office short cuts, Ubuntu
One, Settings etc) and select "Unlock From Launcher". Next up open
what you want on the dock (rdairplay, rdlibrary etc). Once it is open,
right click choose to "Lock to Launcher".

Classic Gnome Menu - Lori Kaufman made a page at
http://www.howtogeek.com/105997/how-to-install-the-classic-gnome-menu-in-unity-in-ubuntu-11.10/
. They were written for Ubuntu 11.10 but they worked on Ubuntu 12.04
without any problems for me.

Many thanks
Geoff Barkman
