I can testify to this as well.  A good quality *gigabit* (1000Base) switch 
along with the appropriate 1000Base adapters in the workstations are a 
necessity for smooth operation of a networked RD setup.  100Base setups 
(so-called 'Fast Ethernet') won't cut it.
