I couldn't get mine to work in CentOS 5.9, either. I ended up switching
to Debian 6, and it's working now.
Mind you, I also encountered a second, different problem: I ordered a new
PCI-PDISO8 from Measurement Computing and found that is is a different
card from the PCI-PDISO8's I bought six years ago. The new card is not
supported by gpio-1.1.0, although I understand that Fred is working on
that.
