we are trying to install rivendell to test its use as a automation system
for a new station i will be directing, i have LIMITED experience with Linux,
Back in 2006 i worked with a nice gentleman at RFA in washington DC and he
helped me learn rivendell, however back then we used SUSE and we had to type
all the codes and packages in, andconfigure things like JACK and a whole
bunch of stuff, i think this mans name was Franco ( i even visited him at
RFA and got a tour of the studios, but time fades and so did my memory) but
my memory may be off i think Alan from this lsit may have been involved in
it as well, at the time they were developing ways to do remote voicetracking
using a software called ummm (damm i forgot sorry) all i remember is it was
like skype but it was a server and it was open source like i said awhile
ago, i do know we had made a successful programming of it ( it was a
telephony server if i recall), once we get a station back online and out of
testing we will be happy to share the programming and workflow we used to do
remote voicetracks i remember testing it and it working well, we tested it
with 8 djs that were in 6 different states, and the final setup made it so a
dj didnt even need to look at linux to cut their tracks and listen to them,
with todays speeds on the internet i can only imagine this will be even
better once we resurrect the old code

I want to install rivendell and see if any changes have been made and
whether it would be a good fit for our station, we would be setting it up to
run as a single station and it would most likely be 100% voicetracked until
the owners figure out how they want to set it up live

workflow would be

Powergold would import the log > (no idea how to set that up, we had it
working a few years ago on another station)
DJS would log in remotely and use a rivendell (windows version) to cut
voicetracks in the log (see above for the info concerning that)
RDairplay would play back the log to a on air transmission feed as well as a
web stream
rivendell would use the info to update the website through xml??

questions

1. will centos work just as well if not better then suse for this
2. is there any information to configure a scheduling system with the
program
3. is there a particular software that runs on windows ( i know there used
to be a way to view logs and do voicetracks on windows by connecting to
rivendell)
4. is the rivendell groups still active and where should i go on the web to
seek help with all this
5. lastly we are having an issue with the following

we are trying to TEST rivendell so we setup a virtual machine and i was
ableto install centos, but when i get to the screen where it asks if i want
to use an existing partition or build new ones i get a " not enough space"
error and centos closes, i have allocated 95gb for the test system

can you help me get this started

lots of thanks
