Back in the early 90s, I did IT for MOR Music TV, which was basically 
what you got when you threw VH1 and The Home Shopping Club in a food
processor -- we played music videos, and sold cassettes and CDs through
an 800 number.

Our MD was a Mac guy, and so one of the things we maintained was a Mac
clone of Selector, and as I remember it, one of the extensions was a
field or fields for "related artists" for precisely this purpose.
