Hi, You're probably better off to use a Rivendell Loadable Module, the rlm_filewrite.rlm can do what you're looking for.
In its config file you can set it to handle escape characters properly for XML, Web, or none. You can also set it to either append to the existing file, or create a new file every time a new track is played.
