Yes, they are. But a "macro" really is just the term for a series of markup language commands when placed into a cart. Those same markup language commands supposedly can be run from the command line and technically I guess that's not a "macro". In my case I need these commands to be started from the command line by another program event, not on a schedule or at the push of a panel button in AirPlay.
In testing thought I discovered the same commands when dropped into a text (.rml) file and fired from a terminal command do NOT perform the same way as they do in a "macro", fired by Rivendell in the log or from a panel button. Specifically the sleep "SP" command seems to be ignored and the next command is executed immediately and there are other anamolies. Creating a "macro" cart, then using the command line to simply fire the cart is an acceptable, if kludgy, work around since my third-party program has to poke and play with the macro cart commands dynamically in the MySQL database. But someone should put on the to do list looking at this bug - that the exact same commands behave differently depending on where they are called. The error is repeatable if anyone wants the details to look at.
