Two possibilities occur to me: does your motherboard have a built-in sound
card? If so, aplay (and Rivendell) may be using that instead of the
Delta 66.
Or, it may be using the Delta, but you need to set a control or two to
hear it.
Run: alsamixer -c0
Look at the card description at the top left. Does it say M Audio? If it
says Intel or some such, then Rivendell is likely using the wrong sound
card.
If it does say M Audio, make sure the PCM level is not set to zero.
