GlassCoder. This is the precise scenario that GlassCoder was invented
to handle (minus PulseAudio, that is -- that system should indeed be
sunk out at sea somewhere).
Basic steps:
1) Install GlassCoder. BA2 users can pull it straight from the
repository ('yum install glasscoder'). Otherwise, install it from
source (http://github.com/ElvishArtisan/GlassCoder). Depending on your
requirements, you may need to install one or more of the optional codecs
as well.
2) Open a shell and work up a command-line invocation that works for
your setup (do 'man glasscoder' for the details).
3) Set that invocation to be started automatically by Rivendell, in
RDAdmin->ManageHosts->Jack.
