And judging by his terminal output his user is radio and the group
should be rivendell as always.
As it seems a weird source install do this just to make sure everything
is ok:
$ sudo addgroup rivendell
$ sudo adduser radio rivendell
$ sudo chown -R radio:rivendell /var/snd
$ sudo chmod -R g+w /var/snd
You will have to logout and back in if you weren't already in the
Rivendell group.

to write anything into this directory.
