Hi Rich,

I have faced this exact same issue, mainly on the Centos Appliance, not so
much on Debian, and this is something has popped up a few times in the
group. I found it to be an issue with the mpg encoder used by Rivendell on
the appliance. Under Debian, I do not have this issue.

I have changed my httpd/apache time out settings, and this helped. However,
the issue is also to do with ID tags embedded into the mp3 file that wreaks
havoc when importing via dropboxes. I do not have this issue when manually
importing via RDLibrary or RDimport.

Robert Jeffares has recently suggested to me that eyeD3 helps. It's a
little bit to install, but once it is, for whatever reason, it fixes the
length issue.

Here's what I did.

Install python

$ sudo yum install python

When installed, run $ sudo cpan

at the prompt, type "install setuptools" and just hit enter at all the
prompts until completed.

Then type "exit"

You'll also need "argparse", at the prompt type $ easy_install argparse

then cd /usr/local/src

$ wget http://eyed3.nicfit.net/releases/eyeD3-0.7.10.tar.gz

then

$ tar xzf eyeD3-X.Y.Z-final.tgz
$ cd eyeD3-X.Y.Z-final
$ python setup.py build
$ export PYTHONPATH=`pwd`/build/lib
$ export PATH=${PATH}:`pwd`/bin

You can now type eyeD3 --remove-all  /path/to/file.mp3

Hope this helps.
