I have not followed this closely and don't recall using this feature at all
but I will make an ignorant attempt to perhaps help to clear something up
in any case.

So, Mircea, Fred... Talking as a programmer is the proposed solution that
even though a drag and drop is initiated, if the "event " is not dragged
out of its original position then it should be automatically cancelled? Or
should there be a popop offering to cancel or duplicate in place?

Does anyone currently "drag to self" to duplicate in place?
