We are looking for any advice/insights on importing

I've checked around a little bit, for example:
  <http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/docs/latest/>
  <http://wiki.apache.org/general/ApacheJira>
and didn't see a way to do it.

Any thoughts appreciated here to save us some manual

Hi Jim.

AFAIK Jira is able to import data from a CSV format (http:// www.atlassian.com/software/jira/docs/v3.0/csv_import.html) as well as from XML. Indeed this last capability is JIRA's internal way to backup and restore data - but probably it could be used with success, perhaps with a tool that exports the issues from the Sun tracking tool in the correct XML syntax.

My 2 cents...
