If you have a better way to read the version it's OK, but my method
worked with Windows 10 (actually I haven't tested it on Linux and cmake)
and IIRC it was based on call to cmake exclusively. It's fine to me to
change but what you said doesn't match exactly the reality (at least in
my Windows 10 virtual machine)
