After getting used to it, I found I preferred the single click.  
For people going back and forth between Windows and Linux, it 
may well be that the double-click allows them an easier 
transition.  For those with a linux-only box, it just takes a 
little getting used to, and then it's easier.

There might be a simple selection button either at installation 
or as an easy adjustment in the Control Center.
