Hi everyone,
I apologize that this does not have anything, directly, to do with
Linux. However, I think it
is sufficiently cool and geeky to interest at least some of the members of
this list.
One of my favorite science fiction authors of recent years is a fellow
named David Weber.
He is mostly known for a series of books referred to as the Honor
Harrington series.
The tenth book in this series, War of Honor, was published just
recently. In the back of the
hardbound edition is a CD. And here is where it gets cool and interesting.
The CD contains the entire Honor Harrington series (10 novels) and 3
compilations of short stories set
in the "Honor universe" along with 27 other full novels from Baen Books (a
publishing company)
all in electronic format. Many include a Mobipocket Palm format, along
with MTML, RTF, Rocket
and a format for that "other" O/S.
But wait, there still more.
There is also a link to the Baen Free Library, which has 47 books currently
listed, which can be downloaded
for free in any of the formats listed above.
I realize in the back of my brain this is most probably a marketing
experiment by Baen to test the waters
on electronic publishing, but what the heck. If you like the sort of
sci-fi they have made available,
why not check it out. The price is very right.

So do men."

Then do it."
