To: Ed, Jay, Tim and Garrett, et al, Thanks for the replies. I am using RedHat 7.x only on a PII box and SuSE 7.x only on an Acer laptop, just to observe differences of installation and configuration. I have not made any real moves to "use" the OS or the applications yet. I did like YAST2 for installation with SuSE.
I have a couple of 8500 and one 9500 MacPPC with a variety of external hd to try installations on. I could live dangerously and do a distro install on the wife's G3 beige. I also have a library of about 18 - 20 Linux text books to read and understand the concepts of the Linux OS. I am hoping to come to a conclusion of a "common" configuration that will run on both the Intel and Mac platforms, or at least "similar" configurations. On the Intel boxes I will run Linux only and am undecided whether to run single or dual OS on the Macs. At this time I am not willing to spring for the cost of G3 or G4 Macs and the cost of OS X, especially as OS X is built from Debian. I have heard it said, "God is in the details." as well as, "The devil is in the details." I can attest that Linux has details to spare. Whether it is sacred or evil I do not know. r. _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! _______________________________________________ RLUG mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.rlug.org/mailman/listinfo/rlug
