I'm (finally) going to be getting DSL through Nevada Bell and want to get a router so I can connect the 3 other computers I have to access the internet. I don't want to go wireless at this time, nor do I want to set up a Linux box to do this for me right now.##### Hi Steve...
I would like to know what router you guys would recommend and if you have seen any problems with any programs getting access to the internet, even after setting up the router to allow that port to have access, and anything else that I should watch our for.
Thanks!
Steve
I use an SMC Barricade router with great success on a network that is not wireless. Besides having a WAN port for a high speed modem, it has a serial port as well that can accommodate an extern dial-up modem as a backup for anytime your DSL might be down, which does happen occasionally. Switching between the modems is quick and easy via the configuration page.
My son is a MCSE with special expertise in security. He has tested my router and found it almost unpenetrable by hackers. He was impressed. Occasional I find a minor limitation connected with being behind a filewall, but not often.
