[RLUG] how do I load freebsd on my labtop

Hello,
My name is Andy, and I am a UNR CS student. I am trying to load freebsd on my IBM thinkpad 760XL. I need to hot-swap from floppy to CD drives, but I do not know when/where I need to load the CD driver. Can anybody help me with this?
