I am using a service at no-ip.com. they offer free domain names ie- yoursite.theirdomain.net. its pretty nice. they take care of pretty much everything. All i have to do is update my ip address on their site, which, i do automatically with one of their update programs. you can also pay money to have a fully registered domain pointed to your server. like artformsdesign.com
okay. i just tried to go to their site, and its down. shitty. so far though, it has been extremelly reliable.
there is also dyndns.org, i have one domain there, though i don't really use it anymore.

Roy I see you beat the non static ip deal...how did you do that? Are you using a router or are you using your Linux box exclusively to do that. I have been fighting that for a long time and I would like to know if there is a non router way around that. (I honestly haven't looked that hard)

Okay. I do have a book that i am going through, "Red Hat Linux 8 Unleashed", and it has been a great help so far. I do need this to be easy though. We are using Dreamweaver & GoLive to code & upload pages. Has worked great for my websites so far. This projects goal is to help me learn LAMP. So far, i have setup apache to serve my sites, had to get around the "no static IP Address" thing. It is working great. the site for this project is called artformsdesign.com & will be a community for me & some other artists to gather and share work. the only hurdle now, is getting them to upload files without bringing me a cd. i understand that scp/ssh is a more secure, and generally better solution, but i want to make it as easy on them as possible. without downloading extra programs etc.. And since dreamweaver/golive use ftp to transfer files, i feel it would be best to use that. I do want to thank the RLUG for helping me though. honestly, i really didnt expect it. I expected a very elitist attitude. again, thanks. i have been searching online for some good tutorials, references, and have found a few good sources. hopefully, by tonight, i will have something running. Using computers is hard, but for some odd reason, I like it... Roy-
