Same here, excellent DSL service with GBIS. As far as DSL goes, they
are the best, especially for people with more needs than the average
user. My advice; If you can't get DSL, maybe look into a wireless
solution. IDSL might be available. It's slower, but has a longer range
from the telco equipment (ADSL is about 3 miles). Avoid Charter and SBC
Yahoo.
As long as GBIS likes you, or you don't dig too deep, you'll be fine. I was forced to switch because of various problems with them. At least they finally updated their swips to get my name off the old subnet I had. They reassigned the subnet to someone else and didn't update the info with ARIN for a year. Very annoying, especially when they hang up on you. The problem I was I needed more than the average user, and they failed to provide.
I haven't had any problems with SBC; they don't charge me for my subnet, no port blocking, and nobody I've talked to there seems to care what I do with the account. They advertise the subnets for use with servers and the like, anyway. The last two times I had a problem they were line related (one idiot in a backhoe ate a trunk line and the other one was hot weather frying an RT card.)
I've heard good things about Speakeasy, but they aren't local and I think they rely on Covad. Best price for 384k up DSL I've seen, however, if that's what matters to you.
