That was exactly my solution while on dialup. However, with
a reasonable ISP, my dyndns.org account has been unchanged for so long
people have started trying to take it over, thinking I've abandoned it!

I've found the same to be true, also with a P2 (300MHz; OpenBSD). Four
connections with four servers on four protocols, all at full bore, and
the CPU meter's just barely creeping over 5%... and most of that is
gkrellmd sending the CPU data to my desktop.

What I value most in a DHCP uplink is the transparency of my network.
All my non-critical hosts are configured by DHCP by default. dhcpd
grants static IPs to some MACs for DNS purposes, but this is transparent
to the host.

And in the event my router goes down, I can just swap cables, down-up
eth0, and I'm back up without touching /etc, must less Portage.

Didn't mean to drag this out. Just saw some good points being made and
wanted to expand on a few.

Just my USD$0.05,
Tim Hammerquist
