Look through the archives - Charter's DHCP requires some unusual flag to be set that Linux does not set by default.Hrmmmm, I don't have to use -B with the 2.2.22 kernel, and it still doesn't work with 2.4.23, which leads me back to something I've fscked up in the kernel, I've spent the last couple hours googling, with no luck, any other ideas??

Ok, now I'm annoyed.....
My firewall/gateway machine is a PMac 7500, running debian Sarge, and at Present, a 2.2.22 kernel, and an IPChains/ipmasqadm firewall/router, I would LIKE to upgrade that machine to 2.4.x and iptables.
So, I wander over to penguinppc.org and grab the latest BenH kernel sources (yes, I know, I'm not using official kernel.org sources, I never do for PPC), and set about building my kernel, 2.4.23.
I configure, I build, I install, I reboot, voila, it reboots all happy, UNTIL it comes time to grab an IP via DHCP from whatever cable router it is that the cable company got the cheapest, no dice. I play with it a little bit, try some different dhclient options, still nothing.
Change /etc/quik.conf back to using the 2.2.22 kernel, and reboot, boom, I have an IP again, and the world is good. So if figure perhaps I missed something in the kernel config, so I go back through and painstakingly check EVERY option, and tell it to build everything looking even REMOTELY dhcp related into the kernel. Rinse, repeat, reboot, still no IP, so I try something else, and ditch dhclient in favour of dhcpcd, still works fine on the 2.2.22 kernel, but bupkis on the 2.4.23 kernel.
Now, my big question. WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING WRONG?
