HelixPlayer and RealPlayer are almost identical. RealPlay is now cooperating with Helix. Helix is regarded as the open-source project, the one that's being included with some new distributions; RealPlayer is still proprietary, but works very well with Linux now and is free "as in beer." The only other difference I've noticed is their logos.HelixPlayer is the open-source base of RealPlayer. So it is the equivalent of the old Mozilla Suite and Netscape Browser. One is based on the same code as the other with rebranding. The only other difference (besides branding) is that the RealPlayer includes additional codecs that are not open source.
