Hi William...

As long as all the old timers are ringing in, I figured I should pipe up. I don't know if I'm the oldest of the old timers, but I must be close.

I spent a dozen year as a software engineer at Apple Computer, Inc. many years ago. I did mostly Apple II and Apple III stuff in assembler including the Installer application for the Apple IIgs, the last Apple II. I did a couple of small tools for the Macintosh Internationalization group.I am an enthusiastic Macintosh user. Macintosh OS X, as you probably know, is built on BSD.

I was going to get into Linux a few years ago, but the particular project I was going to get involved in fell through. Several times, I've started to fiddle with Linux, but never got very far. Finally, thanks to RLUG attendance in recent times, I'm progressing further that ever before. Unfortunately, my consulting activities dictate that I must run Mac OS and Windows. Linux is a fascinating sideline. Without RLUG, I would have never progressed this far.

Beside my many Macs, I have an Acer Aspire laptop which I've set up as a triple boot system with Windows XP, SuSE Linux, and, yet to be installed, FreeBSD. I also have an AMD box running FreeBSD with a little personal website that I host here in my home-office using dynamic DNS (see URL, below). I also have a little storage space on the FreeBSD box that I can access remotely on the internet--handy when I'm at a client's site and I forgot something.

That's the long version of my introduction at the RLUG meetings.
