Hmmm.  That's an intriguing concept. - Check my thinking on a variant.
I'm currently running twin 160 Gb drives in a RAID 1 configuration and
I'm not even at 50% yet.

Could I not turn off the RAID (temporarily) do an Ubuntu install on ONE
of the drives then do the /home copy over to the new install.  Test and
verify then re-do the RAID based on the new install?
