Hi All,
Mark, our kind and benevolent leader, has left us. I'll leave the
details of his departure to him, as I'm sure he's still reading this
list. His departure leaves us with two immediate problems:
establishing a new leader, and finding a new topic.
I've discussed taking the leadership role with Mark, and am prepared
to do so as long as there are no complaints from the community
(anyone need a soapbox?). I have some ideas I'd like to discuss at
our Thursday meeting (BTW... our room order is in, but haven't heard
which room it will be. Hopefully we'll find out by Thursday!).
Unless someone is willing to take the *BSD talk Mark was going to
give we'll need a new topic (I use BSD... but not proficiently). I
can prepare a speech on configuring Samba as a primary domain
controller if anyone is interested in that. If anyone has a topic
they've been waiting for please let the list know as I'm sure someone
could present on it.
All,
I've left the group in the capable hands of Sebastian, as I have
decided that Linux is a dead end and a complete waste of my time. I've
switched purely to OSX now, and will be heading up the MacOSX users
group. Good luck Sebastian!
Now that you've all spit out your coffee, I'll let you in on what is
really going on. I've accepted a job in the bay area with the
University of California system. It is a Senior UNIX Admin position,
so this will give me a chance to get me hands dirty with some even
more Linux stuff. I'll be doing primarily Linux Admin of course, with
some cross over into Solaris and AIX.
To the group, it has been a pleasure meeting with you all as well as
leading the meetings. The next time I am in town during a meeting,
I'll be sure to drop in and say hello to everyone, as well as troll
any Slackware users in the room.
For those *BSD users out there, this is also your group. Don't let
those pesky Linux people push you around. We have a cooler mascot anyway.
Cheers!
Mark

Mark,
You will be missed. Thanks for the great leadership and help.
Very best in your new role. I hope the stress level isn't a problem, and
that you are able to do great things and be truly satisfied in the job.
Now I'm off to Wally World to get a new keyboard- there is a mouthful of
coffee in my current one! ;-)
