Hi all, A while back someone mentioned that we should start some Special Interest Groups. I have a SIG idea I'd be interested in starting if you'd like to participate.
The working title of the SIG is "Guerilla Sys Admins". Think of this group as a technology militia. The goal of the group will be to prepare its members for emergency response. Emergencies will range from hard disk failure to natural disasters, from system compromise to Judgement Day -- Terminator 2 style. All jokes asside, I think it would be great to have teams of people around the US capable of quickly deploying and maintaining secure communication systems in the wake of events like 9/11 and Katrina for aide worker and civilian use. A hard drive crash is a hard comparison to 9/11, but what I intend is for this group to have a strong enough knowledge base that every member will be prepared to provide aide in the occurance of a large scale event. Rather than an extended lecture series, like RLUG, this group will be hands on. We will focus on networks, administration, security, forensics, hardware, and hacking in open source environments. We'll learn how to use tools, and make them. Because this will be a hands on group, there will be requirements for membership. One requirement will be: you must have a computer (a laptop is preferrable), that you don't mind corrupting, hacking, battering, dragging around, and doing who knows what all else to. Meetings will be held on weekends. Let me know if you are interested. - Sebastian _______________________________________________ RLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.rlug.org/mailman/listinfo/rlug
