So the frozen hard drive trick didn't work for me. However, I did get
the hard drive to power up once more and I was able to get all of the
data from it that I couldn't get before. My friend was very excited to
get his files back. He's a musician and had a lot of compositions and
audio files that would be impossible to replace. Thank you knoppix.
