GSA MEETING
I will be out of the country for another week. I assume you guys will
post any important announcements?
PROGRAMMABLE KEYBOARD
Yeah, so I'm typing on a German keyboard right now. The most noticible
differences are that the "y" and the "z" keys are swapped and "@" is
produced by typing CTRL + ALT + Q. Also, all the special characters
are in the wrong places to make for the funny accent symbols.
Inadvertantly, I've found myself in a situation when this keyboard
would be useful.
Personally, I think the most appropriate demographic for such a
product would be public keyosks or terminals (like say in a bank or
museum or selling real estate or something)
...I'm guessing by the arguments against progammability that some of
you are still stuck in the VI era of history ;-)
I'm mostly in awe of emacs users. I'm quite fluent in vi/m, but I'd
really like to use lisp macros and stuff.. :-)
My main concern with emacs, is that when I see people using it, I see
them making a lot of combo-keystrokes... like ctrl-x-y, or some weird
such. I'm certain you can configure this away, or use alternative
methods, but I certainly don't like stretching my fingers to hit/hold
multiple keys simultaneously. Somehow I've just gotten this idea in my
head that it's not good for my hands.
I guess that relegates me to the "VI era of history".. :-)
