I've been lurking on the list for around a month, maybe longer. Just
thought I'd generate some traffic by saying "Hi" and introducing myself.
My name is Ryan Flowers and I've been working with Linux for the last
few years as my job that started out in 1999 as a part time tech support
slave has turned into a more than full time sysadmin and tech support
manager position at the facility I work at where we do hosting,
colocation, and dedicated servers. We're all Linux except for 3 windows
servers and 4 workstations that we have polluting the network.
I've joined the RLUG list so that I can get more familiar with my peers
around the Reno area who do what I do, and then some. I want to learn
more about what it means to be an admin so that I can do my job better,
and I'm learning more and more every day. I work with a guy who's 20
years my senior and has been working with *nix since the early 70's and
he's a great resource, not to mention all the great stories.
Oh, some Linux content: I installed Fedora Core 5 on my home box and or
internal mail server at the office (it needed a rebuild... was on
sendmail/courier-imap and RH8 - now on postfix/dovecot/FC5) and so far
I've been happy with it. The installer sucks more than a
tim-the-toolman-taylor shop vac, but once you clean up the installation
its quite nice.
Well thanks for your time. Everybody have a great weekend (what's left
of it anyway).
Sincerely,
Ryan Flowers
