I've been lurking on the list for around a month, maybe longer. Just
thought I'd generate some traffic by saying "Hi" and introducing myself.
Arguably, much needed traffic, indeed. Welcome!
We're all Linux except for 3 windows
servers and 4 workstations that we have polluting the network.
The bitter truth comes out. ;-)
I want to learn more about what it means to be an admin ...
More often than not, a lack of an "ordinary" social life (whatever that means), an aversion to sunlight and a constant cacophony of rack noise ringing in one's skull...
Oh, some Linux content: I installed Fedora Core 5 on my home box and or
internal mail server at the office (it needed a rebuild... was on
sendmail/courier-imap and RH8 - now on postfix/dovecot/FC5) and so far
I've been happy with it.
I suppose you can be forgiven these trespasses... but just this once.
But in all seriousness, welcome to the group! It's nice to have fresh blood stirring the pot a bit. Hopefully you will be able to spare some time out of that all-too-busy admin schedule to join a meeting or two; I know it can be tough sometimes, but they are (almost) always worth it! Perhaps you could strong-arm your co-worker to come along. It's nice to talk 'real' UNIX occasionally. Hehe.
Peace,
Brandon

If UNIX doesn't have the solution you have the wrong problem.
UNIX is simple, but it takes a genius to understand it's simplicity.
