I'm not entirely happy with the fix included into issue 455, but I'm sure
we can find
some other cleaner way to accomplish this.
This issue is also related to issue 339 which discusses adding a separate
logging
API. That API would also handle timestamps correctly, and if it is
implemented the
priority of this issue gets lower.
