Arguments do not Resolve Variables in Regular Expressions

In a nutshell, a decision was made that we would have arguments containing
multiple words for readability purposes.
Unfortunately to define them in this manner, we ultimately had to construct
large regular expressions that ended up being repeated.
I ultimately could see myself deprecating these, but our testers have grown
a dependency on them to some extent, and the reason for this issue opening
is that I thought that this could provide a bit of a stopgap solution to
clean up the code until I made the case for broad deprecation of these....
troublesome keyword definitions.
