I don't think you need a custom robot to do this. I know that altavista had
an advanced search option that would allow you search for pages that
referred back to your site. I haven't looked at altavista for ages, but
Google may have something like this.

Subject: [Robots] need robot to search for my webpage links

> Is there a way to program a robot to search every USA webpage permissable
for my old webpage address and when it finds one to have it email me the URL
of that page? That would enable me to alert people of my new web address and
to change their webpage with the new address info.

the robot search for email contact info in the webpage found to have my link
in it and to automatically send an email alert that my address has changed.
The robot could possibly be programmed if it found several email addresses
to send alerts to the most likely webmaster's email address based on certain
logic parameters.

server, but I hate for someone to have to be redirected especially
considering they may not even get redirected if my old server is down or too
congested.

there weren't that many options and essentially what happened is I gradually
built up a good business reputation and have many cross-links, directories,
and search engines with my old web page address. My old address is long and
bulky and is with compuserve

worse has been forced to change because the company went out of business
