the clips also played fine when i was manually navigating in the viewers folder
in .rockbox\rocks\viewers.
That is expected behaviour...
but when i actually hit the open with option in the menus the clips wouldn't
play so i'm guessing that some other function is actually doing something that
means it won't work. guess its time to look at the code.

In the rockbox source tree? Maybe try using grep and searching through
files that sound like they may contain what your looking for.
Look in the apps dir and subdirs.
It won't be in firmware or tools...
do you think if i created entrys in the lang file for the actual plugins that
are displayed in the open with dialog if that would work?
No it wouldn't work.
I am starting to wonder if you read the replies. I believe I have said to
you off list that that won't work. And you keep asking...?
