I'd have to agree here. At first I felt like setting it to 100% when no value was set made a sort of basic sense.
But thinking a while since the original email went up, I now thing it makes more sense not to change things. It's not really "backward compatible" if it starts messing with the original behaviour - leave it as it is and if people want old bookmarks to have pitch values in them now, they can just re-save the bookmark.
