Agreed. The conventions can of course be changed (and maybe they should be, I'm taking no position on this), but while they state that keywords etc. should be set, then it is a requirement that they are. If using other tools than the project does means that is harder, then that is the fault/problem of the people using those other tools that they need to sort out.
