Speaking of the unpredictable:
On Wednesday, January 30, Shit and Shine - one of the most unusual live
bands on the planet - will give one of their rare and legendary
mantra-style, one riff/multi-drummer shows.
*Shit & Shine* is a sideline of *Craig Clouse* (TODD) together with
*Leon Marks* and *Lawrence Price*, which implies a riff, a beat, a song
that's at least 45 minutes long, 2 basses, and 10 to 20 drummers (or
more): a premium Noise rampage - drastic and incalculable. Riff and drum
pattern are established and revealed to guest drummers only shortly
before a performance begins. Then, after a quick warm-up during the
sound-check, the show rolls into pure improvisation, known to develop
every which way. Whatever happens, one thing is certain: mediocre
entertainment this is not. Shit & Shine gigs are hypnotic, ecstatic
events and whether you love 'em or leave 'em, they won't ever leave you
unmoved. Delirious Riff Fetishism!

The enclaves of Folk and Pop have melded with the expansive
borderlessness of laptop Electronica into what is yet another floating
signifier: Folktronica.
This night is the Berlin debut for the Danish band, *Efterklang*, that
unites acoustic beauty and electronic melancholy in a mix of folk and
gentle Pop gestures. Efterklang's first album, /Tripper /(2004)
catapulted the band to fame and assured it a number one hit in the
Danish singles charts. Their second album, /Parades/, released in 2007
on The Leaf Label, brings together 11 emotionally charged, majestically
ethereal orchestral pieces, elaborated with romantic charm that lures
the listener into strangely enchanting worlds. To see the 9-strong band
live is a fascinating experience.
*Islaja *is a widely acclaimed solo project from young musician, Merja
Kokkonen, who is closely affiliated with the Finnish Free Folk scene and
its psychedelic aesthetic. Her songs, recorded at home in her own
studio, evince beguiling intimacy, mesmerising fine acoustic textures
and bewilderingly surreal moments.

The idea of an improvised remix concert of original, pre-recorded sound,
was realized by nobody more fully than *Conrad Schnitzler*, the
pioneering musician who convinced Tangerine Dream and Kluster (Cluster)
to delve into the then-unexplored realm of synthesized sound, with his
Kassetten Konzert.
For the CTM.08 Kassetten Konzert, Schnitzler's long time collaborator,
*Wolfgang Seidel,* is the authorized "conductor" or "player".

Am Mittwoch, 30. Januar, werden Shit and Shine - eine der
ungewoehnlichsten Live-Bands der Welt - eine ihrer raren und legendaeren
"One Riff/Multi-Drummer Live-Shows" geben.
*Shit & Shine* ist das Nebenprojekt von *Craig Clouse* (TODD) zusammen
mit *Leon Marks*, *Lawrence Price* und das bedeutet: ein Riff, ein Beat,
ein Song, mindestens 45 Minuten, 2 Bässe, 10-20 Schlagzeuger (oder
mehr). Noise Rampage der Extraklasse - drastisch und unberechenbar. Erst
kurz vor der Performance werden Riff und Drum-Pattern festgelegt und an
die beteiligten Gast-Schlagzeuger durchgegeben. Nach kurzer Einuebung
waehrend des Soundchecks geht es los - der Rest ist Improvisation und
kann sich in jede erdenkliche Richtung entwickeln. Egal, was passiert,
eins ist auf jeden Fall klar: Mittelklasse-Unterhaltung bekommt man
woanders geboten. Shit & Shine Gigs sind hypnotisch-ekstatische Events,
und egal, ob man es liebt oder hasst, unberuehrt laesst es einen nicht.

Die Enklaven von Folk und Pop haben sich mit der Grenzenlosigkeit von
Laptop-Elektronik zu einem weiteren, freischwebenden Begriff vereint:
Folktronica.
Die daenische Band *Efterklang *ist heute zum ersten Mal in Berlin und
vereint akustische Schoenheit und elektronische Melancholie zu einer
magischen Mischung aus Folk-Songs, Electronica und großer Pop-Geste.
Efterklangs Debuet-Album /Tripper /(2004) machte die Band auf einen
Schlag beruehmt und bescherte ihr Platz Eins in den Daenischen
Single-Charts. Ihr 2007 bei The Leaf Label erschienenes zweites Album
/Parades /versammelt 11 emotional aufgeladene, majestaetisch-schwebende,
orchestrale Stuecke, die mit großartigem romantischem Ornament in
fremde, zauberhafte Welten entfuehren. Live ist die 9-koepfige Band ein
faszinierendes Erlebnis.
*Islaja *ist das von der Kritik gefeierte Soloprojekt von Merja
Kokkonen, einer jungen Musikerin, die eng mit der finnischen
Free-Folk-Szene und deren psychedelischer Ästhetik verbunden ist. Ihre
zu Hause im Heimstudio aufgenommen Songs sind von betörender Intimität
und faszinieren durch ihre feinen klanglichen Texturen und verwirrend
surrealen Momente.

Niemand hat die Idee des aus vorproduziertem Klangmaterial
improvisierten Remix-Konzerts so ueberzeugend realisiert wie *Conrad
Schnitzler* mit seinem Konzept des Kassetten Konzerts. Als Mitbegruender
ueberzeugte der Pionier Schnitzler in den spaeten 60er Jahren seine
Bandkollegen von Kluster (spaeter Cluster) und Tangerine Dream, sich in
die damals noch unerforschte Welt der Synthesizer-Klaenge aufzumachen.
Das Kassetten Konzert beim CTM.08 wird von Schnitzlers langjährigem
Mitstreiter *Wolfgang Seidel* als autorisierter „Spieler" ausgeführt.
