Another takeaway from the second mini-hackathon session yesterday was that we felt

I would like to propose (again) that we create a branch for the jdobackend work.

By the way, what is our policy on creating development branches? Can any
committer create a dev branch? Is consensus required to create development
branches?

+1 on JDO/JPA backend branch.

I don't think consensus is requred to creatae a branch, we should
allow committers to experiment with changes and new features in new
branches.

If folks start to leave old useless branches around and the branches
directory starts to fill up with confusing/distracting crap, then
perhaps we'll need a policy -- e.g. a special experimental branches
directory or a periodic review/cleanup of branches. I don't think we
have that problem right now.
