I'm starting to get a vibe that there's a lot of flameing going on around here. Perhaps a lot of "Not Built Here" Syndrome with the code base? I mean really, I think if your going to have a codebase like ROM, it should be updated by someone, with an array of decent features for any style MUD. It seems to me that right now It's abandonded and people work on 'variation' projects but for some reason, none pick up the cult status of original ROM.
