While Brian and I have gotten into many a heated discussion off the list
about the list, (And i've sent to the list from a non-subscribed email
address many a time until he pointed it out to me), I think you should axe
the emails completely, and send a nice little message back that says, "you
can't do that unless you join."

But, you're the boss :)
