Brian,

Log in as root or su to root. To su ensure you use "su - root" this way
your root profile and path gets ran. If you do "su root" or simply "su"
root's profile does not get run. This will cause certain libraries not to be
pathed and "other oddities".
Then perform the following ignore quotes where applicable. However do not
ignore the quotes around your specific hostname if you choose method 2.

"/sbin/linuxconf"
Expand "Config"
Then Expand "Client Tasks"
Then Expand "Hostname + IP....."
You can set your hostname in there.

OR/AND

"vi /etc/sysconfig/network"
Ensure the following lines exist
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME="hostname.domain.ext"

Either one should do it.

Subject: Linux Question

I realize that this isnt an linux listserver, but I just upgraded to Redhat
Linux 7.2 and how do you set the hostname in it.. the file /etc/hostname
doesnt exist, when I made the file and rebooted it didnt even read it.. man
hostname doesnt help, because the 2 files files it talks about doesnt exist.
I finally gave up and juryrigged the hostname by setting the hostname at
every bootup.

Brian
